2019 Broadcom MASTERS Results

Finalists were selected by a panel of distinguished scientists and engineers from among the Top 300 MASTERS and over 2,300 applicants in 47 states, Washington, DC and two US territories.The top 30 finalists include 18 girls and 12 boys covering 13 states and representing 28 schools.

2019 Intel ISEF Awards Results

During the week of May 11-17, 2019, 1842 students from 80 countries, regions, territories, and from across the US, were in Phoenix, Arizona to be judged for their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics projects in 22 different categories at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair.

Eight San Diego students qualified through the Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair or through the California Science and Engineering Fair. These students went through an entire day of judging on Wednesday, May 15 and represented our area with distinction - with several of our students winning Grand Awards in their respective categories, as well as Special Awards.

CONGRATULATIONS to all eight of our ISEF finalists who were outstanding representatives of San Diego and Imperial Counties!!!

 

ISEF GRAND AWARDS:

The Grand Awards Ceremony took place on Friday morning, May 17th in which approximately 300 students out of the over 1800 finalists receive place awards from 4th through 1st Place. The Best in Category winners are selected from the two First Award winners in each category, and the Top Winners are selected from the Best in Category winners. Over $1,000,000 in award money is given out, with the top winner receiving $75,000. In addition to award money, each First and Second Award winners will have an asteroid named after them.

Approximately 300 Special Awards were provided by companies and professional societies totalling over $3,000,000 in award money, scholarships, scientific trips, and internships. The Special Awards Ceremony was held on Thursday evening, May 16th.

California Science and Engineering Fair 2019 RESULTS:

The CSEF gives only one place award for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th  in each category. Depending on the category, 0 to 3 Honorable Mentions may be given. Approximately 935 projects participated in the CSEF this year, with 89 projects nominated from the GSDSEF.

2019 GSDSEF Highlights

 

In the 65th Annual Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair, we had

  • Over 930 students submitted projects for screening
  • Over 620 7th - 12th grade Student Exhibitors accepted to participate
  • 18 6th graders participated in the first GSDSEF Sixth Grade Showcase
  • 61 Team Projects in Junior Division (first year allowed) and 14 Team Projects in Senior Division
  • 51 San Diego County Middle Schools and 4 Imperial County Middle Schools participated
  • 23 San Diego County High Schools  and 1 Imperial County High School participated
  • 89 Projects qualified for the California Science and Engineering Fair
  • 60 Junior Division Projects nominated for Broadcom MASTERS
  • 55 Professional Societies gave awards and scholarships
  • 400 judges decided Categorical Place Awards in 16 categories
  • Over $18,000 in scholarships awarded
