A science fair project is an exciting thing! You'll be surprised at yourself and what you
can accomplish! Pick a topic and ask a question! It's that easy! Any topic that interests you
can be turned into a science fair project. Interested in airplanes? Rollerblades? Fish?
Dogs? Baseball? All involve science or engineering. The key to a great projects is to
find something you like. Then you'll walk away with a greater understanding of
it and science.
Enlist the help of your English and math teachers, not just your science teacher. Your English teacher can help
you with putting together your background research paper and writing up your notebook and backboard.
Your math teacher can help with statistics that are useful in proving (and sometimes disproving)
your hypothesis.
What kind of recognition could I get with my
project? You could get accepted into the
GSDSEF! We offer awards, scholarships and trips to Taiwan and the
International Science and Engineering Fair. It's great for college and scholarship applications!
Another great opportunity for you with the GSDSEF is the
Student Advisory Board. It is the honor society of
the Fair. Students throughout San Diego give back to the organization that provided wonderful
opportunities to them with their community service. Find out how to
get involved!
Teacher of the Year
Do you have a favorite science fair teacher who helped you with your science project?
Nominate them for Teacher of the Year. See the past Teacher of the Year winners.
My teacher doesn't require a project or my school does not do Science Fair. Can I still submit a
project for screening if it isn't required by my class/school?
YES! The project must meet the guidelines of the Fair to
be considered for review. Requirement by the teacher or a school fair is not required to request
consideration for entrance to the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair.
You can find all the necessary forms right here! If you have
any questions or concerns, just ask! We are here to help and in some cases, point you
