Award given to innovative projects dealing with cancer research and environmental health.

3 -- American Chemical Society

Resourcefulness, completeness, presentation, how much the student understands. We avoid any project where the student had access to sophisticated equipment or professional scientists.

4 -- American Concrete Institute

5 -- American Heart Association

Projects concerning cardiovascular disease relating to signals & actions of a heart attack or stroke, hypertension, nutrition, fitness, smoking, and anatomy and physiology.

6 -- American Inst. of Aeronautics & Astronautics

Limited to physical sciences, areas of engineering and physics.

7 -- American Nuclear Society

Projects judged on creativity, knowledge and applicability to nuclear issues, ease of understanding of project by professionals & lay people, neatness, visual appeal, correct grammar & spelling, new ideas.

8 -- American Public Works Association

Buildings & Grounds, equip. services, municipal, waste management, transportation, water resources, utilities chord, emergency management.

9 -- American Society of Civil Engineers

Projects judged on relevance to civil engineering, innovation, imagination, thoroughness, presentation and logic.

10 -- American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning

Projects judged on scientific thought in the area of energy conservation, thermal insulation and thermal environmental considerations.

11 -- American Society of Materials International

Projects judged on the application of the scientific method and clarity -- explanation of project and discussion of problem and results.

12 -- American Society of Mechanical Engineers

Projects judged on basic engineering fundamentals (theory & methods), originality, concept, presentation, student's understanding. The project must work.

13 -- Area 8 Association of Resource Conservation District

Projects should show concepts of or present new methods in soil or water conservation.

14 -- Association for Women in Science

Projects judged on originality, student design, experimental design, data analysis and results. Clarity and neatness are also emphasized. This award is restricted to women.

15 -- Association of Energy Engineers, San Diego Chapter

Projects judged on the application to energy management, alternate energy sources and co-generation.

16 -- Association of Old Crows

Projects concerning engineering (electrical) and physics.

17 -- Biomedical Research Inst. of America

Projects judged for scientific approach and methodology, originality and thoroughness. Emphasis is placed on projects that best address a current issue in medical sciences.

18 -- Calif. Assoc. for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance

Projects related to the fields of health, biology, etc.

19 -- California Association of Family and Consumer Sciences

Projects judged on scientific thought, data content, social relevance, creativity, thoroughness, clarity and appearance.

20 -- California Association of Professional Scientists

Award is given for research in Botany, Biology, Physics and Environmental Health.

21 -- California Association of School Nurses

Research in the area of health, biology, botany, etc. Senior Division only.

Projects must represent unique research or approach into the area of health. Student's presentation to judging team is important.

Open to Junior and Senior Division students with research topics involving optics, sight and the seeing impaired.

Demonstration of electrical and electronic creativity. and engineering problem solving.

Projects applying unique instrumentation or measurement techniques.

30 -- Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program

Project should reflect some aspect of excellence in health care.

Projects dealing with physics, mathematics and engineering.

32 -- Marine Technology Society

Research in marine topics, including biology, chemistry and environmental health.

33 -- National Association of Corrosion Engineers

Projects judged involve 1) galvanic electric currents, 2) coatings, 3) cathodic protection, 4) electrochemistry, 5) corrosion, 6) corrosion control or intentionally accelerated corrosion.

Project reviewed on scientific approach, quality of work, documentation and follow through.

Open to Junior and Senior Division students with research topics involving optics, sight and the seeing impaired.

The project must be related to optics: lasers, lenses, imaging, color detection from eyes, wave nature of light, classical astronomy, telescopes, and fiber optics.

Nutrition: must demonstrate an idea that would promote health for people. EcoÄAgriculture: must demonstrate an idea for improving growing quality of foods for people or for improving the distribution of fresh foods.

Projects judged on presentation of idea, appearance and student's knowledge of the subject area.

Research contemporary topics, its presentation, development and documentation.

Topics of health, community health and environmental health.

Must be a project related to aerospace technology. Most be innovative and exploratory. Must be well documented both in theme and results.

44 -- San Diego Astronomy Association

Projects judged on 1) the student's actual interest in astronomy, 2) the amount and quality of work the student actually performed, 3) student's understanding of the project, 4) any construction required.

45 -- San Diego Audobon Society

Projects judged on their orientation towards environmental issues and their applicability to local fauna and flora.

46 -- San Diego Computer Society

Projects judged on their use of computers as the main component of the project, the quality of work, the completeness of thought, and documentation.

Projects should involve marine organisms or habitats, or marine resource conservation. Projects will be judged on creativity, clarity, communication, understanding of science and appreciation of the marine environment.

Research in new materials or testing of existing materials for strength, thermal or environmental concerns.

Must be outstanding in the area of applied sciences and 5ngineering. This award is restricted to women.
